I have to accept fall. I like fall, I just don’t like to get excited about something that leads to winter. I’m a huge spring and summer fan. I’m the girl that can hardly wait for even a hint of warmer weather and sunshine. Fall is very pretty, especially where we live, Starbucks has pumpkin spice lattes in the fall, and scary movies are always fun (yet cheesy) to see with friends. OK OK, Fall–you win. Can you just stay around through the months of December, January and February perhaps?
Since we have this wonderful new house, I wanted to decorate for every holiday, for my own benefit and Brayden’s. I like pretty things.
I remember growing up helping my family decorate for every holiday, and that was such a fun memory for me—-so being the great mom that I am, I wanted to make sure Brayden had the same fun! Plus, lets face it, it makes me feel like a kid again myself, which is an extra bonus I’m OK with!
I didn’t really know where the one box of fall decorations were that we moved over from our old house, and I didn’t feel like digging for them in the pile of boxes we haven’t completely unpacked and organized yet, so off to my trusted ol friend Pier One I went! You cannot go wrong with Pier One anytime of the year! Plus, they sent me a coupon when we moved. How nice of them. I bought a few pieces (sparkly pumpkins, a rustic picture frame, some candles…you know, the basics hehe) and then headed to Target to see what I could find. I did not want my house to look like a fall freak show, but I wanted people to notice I did put thought into this!
I found a cute door decoration and a few other “fall-ish” items, and came home and put them up. I was so proud of myself. However, while I was outside decorating, I saw these pesky weeds in the flower beds, so I had to pull them, then I decided the porch needed swept, so I did that too. Then, I saw some spider webs that had started in the corners, so
I Brock had to take care of that too. Suddenly decorating became an all day thing. Typical Mary. I have a way of turning a 10 minute project into a two day project.
Some of our favorite fall things are:
Brock: Bears Football, Michigan Football—and I could go on, but really everything he likes in the fall and winter revolves around those two things. 🙂
Mary: Pumpkin muffins (made the healthy way with spice cake mix and pumpkin), pumpkin dip (1 tub of ff cool whip, 1 can of pure pumpkin, 1 small package of sugar free vanilla instant pudding and pumpkin pie spice to flavor it) Pumpkin coffee from Dunkin Donuts, crock pot soups and chili, Anderson Orchard’s apple cider slushies (best 1.00 I have ever spent in my life), apple dumplings–of which I need a healthy recipe for, fall scented candles from Bath and Body Works (Apple Crumble is a favorite!!), scary movies that I remember watching in middle school and high school (like Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Halloween etc.), fall pea-coats and tall boots. I’m sure there are many more things, but these top the list! Yes, I did know that I left off the beloved Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte. I allow myself only one a year, because I don’t drink calories and those suckers are bad for you anyway you take them!
Here are some photos of the fun we have had this fall: Enjoy!
