Pickin’ Up My Fit Tools…

Those of us who care about our health and appearance usually know what works best for them to obtain and keep that appearance up.  I know what my basic tools are, but it’s always so much fun to check out what everyone else’s are.  I am always trying new things!  New face creams, organic products, new recipes (as long as they are easy), a new style of shirt here and there, and of course…lots of new shoes and makeup.  And jewelry, and purses…and I’m pretty sure you get the idea.

Back in January, much like the rest of America, I decided to stop making excuses and really buckle down on the last 15 pounds I wanted to lose and KEEP off.

I’ve lost about 12 pounds…and the last 3 vary from day-to-day.  Mainly this is my fault.  Why is it that when we get sooo close to the “diet” finish line, we aren’t as strict?  I mean, I wouldn’t run a 5K and start walking 20 feet before the finish line, so why do I do that with my eating habits?  Such a frustrating part of myself that I will never understand.

I’m happy with the weight I have lost and hopefully I can just continue to be consistent with cardio and free weights to keep the last 3 off.  If I have learned anything over the last year, it’s that consistency is key.  And…I kinda suck at it.   Hence the last 3 pounds that set up camp around my thighs!

Anyways, getting back on track —

Here are some of my favorite new sites…aka my TOOLS… that have made it easy to plan meals and try new healthy things!  Those of you who know me, know that I hate meal planning.  I hate the idea that I have to spend time and effort planning something that may not happen if something better comes up haha.  I’m totally down with trying things from these sites!  They are all healthy, really good tasting and the food is all very pretty 🙂

**Hungry-girl.com –Looove Lisa!  Some of you may have her books, but be sure to sign up for her daily emails!  I have made SEVERAL things off them!

**Eat Yourself Skinny (www.eat-yourself-skinny.com) First of all, Kelly Hunt is adorable and she has great fashion sense…but more importantly, her recipes are amazing, and super healthy for you!  She gets a thumbs up from me because she tries to eat clean and most of her recipes are prepared with that in mind.  She has a Funfetti Cake Mix Dip that is to die for and only 100 calories!  Follow her on twitter and Facebook and check out her blog!

**Dashing Dish (www.dashingdish.com)  Love this site!  Love her quick videos with helpful tips and her recipes are yummo!  Brock and I just tried to chicken pizza salad the other night and it was great!  Again, super healthy, and everything has weight watchers points converted already!

**Skinny Taste (www.skinnytaste.com) This site was something I came upon back in January when I was considering joining weight watchers.  I didn’t end up joining, but…I’m super glad I found this site!  Really great crock pot recipes and dessert recipes!

**Alison Sweeney’s Website (www.alisonsweeney.com) She’s the author of “The Mommy Diet” and plays the infamous Sami Brady on Days of Our Lives, oh and has this other little job; playing hostess on The Biggest Loser.  She’s got some great advice peeps!  Snacks, fitness on the go, and no excuse work outs are just a few.  This lady means business and brings a whole new meaning to multi-tasking!

**Roo Mag.com (www.roomag.com/category/practically-speaking/)  –Candace Cameron Bure’s website houses her blog, which she tries to update a few times a week.  This includes recipes, work out tips, Candace’s own food “log” and inspirational scriptures.  I’m a fan!

**My Fitness Pal (www.myfitnesspal.com)  I’m a member (Look me up: mkeevers) and I recently started logging my foods again on a daily basis.  Everyone says it helps.  I have been counting calories for years, so I have gotten good at keeping a mental note of how many I have probably consumed, but sometimes it’s just better to actually SEE it.  Good site…check it out!

And here are some of my favorite books

**Bob Harper’s “The Skinny Rules”.  Read it…all of it!!!!!  Try to stick to at least half his rules on a day-to-day basis.  It’s a plain and simple weight loss strategy and he keeps it non-frilly and to the point.

**Alison Sweeney’s “The Mommy Diet”.  I like this book for the recipes that are scattered throughout.  Simple, fast, on the go snacks!  Sign me up!

**Candace Cameron Bure’s “Reshaping It All”.  I love everything about this book!  I have mentioned it in earlier blogs, so I’m not going to rehash what I think, but you should really check it out.  🙂

**Hungry Girl’s “300 Under 300” cookbook.  I love Lisa’s cookbooks!  Everything is so organized and laid out where you can find something easy in very little time!  I have made several items for dinner and breakfast from this cookbook, and also from her “200 under 200” cookbook and have never been disappointed!

Those are some of my “tools” for taking care of my health.  What are your tools?  Please share!

God only gave us one body.  It’s your temple, treat it that way! 🙂

Our Family ABC’s

I thought it would be fun to do an “ABC’s of..” Brock, Brayden and I combined.  Get to know a little more about us…

Ready.  Set.  Go!

A–is for Apples.  Bob Harper says we are supposed to eat these everyday.  Ehhh, I’m trying to make my best effort.  How is something so easy, so hard?

B–is for the million B names in the Keevers’ family.  Brian, Brock, Blake, Brianna, Barb, Brady and Brayden.  Shewwww….

C–is for coffee.  Oh, coffee, my love.  Every. Single. Day. I have to have a Starbucks Grande Bold coffee.  No sugar, no cream.  Every. Single. Day.  True Story.

D–is for dogs.  We were crazy to have 3 dogs!  They are a tiny bit spoiled too.

Meet Stella, Jewel and Zeus!

E–is for Eggs.  Every Saturday morning, without fail, I get up and make eggs for all of us.  Omelets, scrambled, over easy, you name it, you got it!

F–is for Football.  Brock lives for Chicago Bears and Michigan Wolverine football, so from August (Pre-Season) to February (Super-Bowl), I consider myself a football widow.  🙂  Hey, this is why it’s good to have great FRIENDS (also an F word) to have girls nights with!

G–is for Green, which seems to be Brayden’s favorite color lately.

H–is for House.  We had a new house built this year and recently have moved in.  We love it!

I–is for icicle.  90% of my day you will find me with my feet in front of a space heater, or with thick socks on.  I am freezing all the time!

J–is for Jewel.  Jewel and Brayden are BFF.  He can’t leave the house without giving her hugs and kisses and she can’t go to bed without finding him so he can give her hugs.  She is his dog through and through.

K–is for Keurig.  I have a little bit of an obsession with my Keurig coffee maker.  For one, it’s pretty.  Secondly, it makes amazing coffee, and lastly…they make Starbucks bold coffee for the machine!  Mommy likey!

L–is for Love.  Not gonna lie folks, lots of love in our family!  I love that my family knows how to love!  🙂

M–is for Monogramming.  I have this obsession with everything belonging to someone by being monogrammed.  I love my “M” coffee mug, my “M” and “B” door hooks, my “B” charm necklace and most of all, I love my Thirty-One products that I have personalized.  Mary=Big Fan 🙂

N–is for Night-time.  No matter how hard Brock and I try, we can never get to bed before 11:30 or midnight.  We are night people, apparently.

O–is for October.  October means pumpkins, which means the pumpkin spice latte is back at the ‘Bucks!  October is also one of the prettiest months, if you like colder weather..blah!

P–is for Parties!  I love a good party!  It could be a birthday party, going away party, theme party, jewelry party (or Thirty-One party–hint hint) or a baby shower.  I don’t care.  I’m down!  I love dressing up and bringing someone a gift.  Weird, I know.

Q–is for Q’doba.  Brock and I are both guilty.  Oops!

R–is for Rave.  As in The Rave movie theatre.  Brock and I love to go see movies!  Even better:  Seeing movies with our friends!

S–is for Shopping.  Not that I really need to explain this…but I’m a shop-a-holic.  Yup.  Yup…

T–is for Thomas the Train.  The question is “what isn’t Thomas the Train” at our house.  We have train tables, and 3 different types of tracks, about 50 movies, bath toys, shirts, house shoes, pillow pets, books and about 300 of the trains.  Yes, I think we all know Brayden is spoiled.  But, we love that he takes time to play with his trains.  He treats them like they are real and he’s extremely particular about how he plays with them.  And, just an FYI…he KNOWS EVERYTHING about them.  Each. One. Of. Them.

U–is for Ulta.  I really like Sephora better, but Ulta will have to do for eye shadow and self tanner.

V–is for Very Clean!  There is nothing I love more than to come home to a spotless house.  It will put me in a fantastic mood instantaneiously!

W–is for walking.  Thankful that I like to do it.  Thankful I have legs to do it.  Try to do it as much as I can!

X–is for X-Factor!  So pumped that Britney Spears will be a judge this year!  I’m gonna have to watch!

Y–is for yellow, or as Brock calls it, Maize.  UM+Brock=gone every Saturday. 🙂

Z–is for Marty the Zebra on the Madagascar movies.  Brayden’s a big fan! 🙂

These are a few of my favorite mom-things…

I really, really try to be a great mommy!  I feel like once you become a mom, there is a whole new bag of optional “accessories” that come along with it!  It reminds me of when I was a little girl and all I ever wanted was “My Little Ponies”.  It wasn’t good enough to have just the ponies…you had to have the ballet studio and the castle too!

Some moms may not like the new fangled accessories that help parents out, and I even draw the line at some things (Brayden, mama is getting an iPad before you, buddy), but for the most part…I really try to do my research and use the products I feel are “worthy.”

Here are a few of my favorite things (for the mom of a 3-4 year old):

1.  The Portable DVD Player….hook this bad boy up and it will guarantee an hour of silence in the back seat!

2.  A Playroom.  Do I have to elaborate on this?  I’m a little bit of a neat freak.  If all the clutter can stay in one place that isn’t seen by everyone…I’m game!

3.  Convertible Car Seats/Booster Seats with Cup Holders.  Trust. Me!  Drive-Thrus will be your friend again.

4.  Wet Ones, Sensitive Skin.  When don’t I use these?  The other day I was waiting for food in a drive thru and I decided my dash-board was a little dusty.  Out come the Wet Ones….  I have a pack in my purse, a mother ship sized container in my car and the singles packets in “grammy’s” purse for going out to eat or to the zoo etc.

5.  Pottery Barn Kids Bedding and Decor.  Love it.  Those who are skeptical because of the price, should just try it!  It lasts forever, it’s washable and it’s really well made!  A lot of times PBK will run 20-30% bedding sales too, and almost always you will find it is free shipping.

6.  Thirty-One lunch thermals.  Brayden and mommy have their own…and they are top-notch!  We take them on mini trips (zoo, children’s museum, movies) and big trips too!  Brayden also uses his for preschool :).

Self promotion:  http://www.mythirtyone.com/mkeevers

7.  Horizon Organic Milk Boxes.  Vanilla, 2%, Strawberry and Chocolate–oh my!  These little carton’s find their way into our fridge all the time.  Brayden is obsessed!  Good news:  Kroger runs them on the 10 for 10.00 sale all the time!

8.  The Honest Company Products.  I rave about this company all the time and there is good reason behind it!  Brayden has super sensitive skin, and I LOVE their laundry detergent and dishwasher soap.  The company just launched this spring and they are constantly adding things to their site.

9.  A Swing Set.  BOOM!  ‘Nough Said

10.  A Disney CD.  What?  You don’t want to be caught jammin’ out to “You’ve Got a Friend In Me?”  These are perfect!  Kids love to sing and it gets the creative juices flowing, while passing time on a trip! 🙂
